    Our analysis

The PS5 remake delivers significantly polished visuals and fast loading over the PS3 original, and as the prototype for Dark Souls and Bloodborne it is genuinely engaging for fans. However, its five hub-linked areas suffer from too-easy, gimmicky bosses and dated frustrations like cramped inventory limits and a clunky dual-shard upgrade system. Stingy checkpoints and a half-health death penalty make it harder than expected for newcomers, leaving its present-day purpose unclear.

    Our analysis

The PS5 remake is the most user-friendly and arguably easiest entry in the Souls series, with improvements like fast load times, clearer graphics, and helpful inventory systems that make the game more accessible while maintaining its challenging spirit. Despite some underwhelming reward content, it's a definitive way to experience this foundational soulsborne title.

    Our analysis

A visually stunning remake of the original Demon's Souls with excellent presentation and quality-of-life improvements, but held back by a faithful-to-a-fault approach that misses opportunities to refine gameplay. Highly recommended for newcomers but difficult to justify as a sole reason to purchase a PS5.

    Our analysis

A masterpiece and must-play game that serves as the foundational origin of the entire Souls genre. Despite bosses being simpler than later entries, the game's art direction, technical quality, and historical significance make it essential.
