Holds up better than expected on revisit, especially given its roughly 18-month development. The self-contained Kirkwall setting and the Arishok as a standout antagonist make for a surprisingly strong, well-connected narrative that ties into Origins and Inquisition. The voiced protagonist limits dialogue, choices often feel illusory, the simplified action combat is shallow, and reused dungeon environments wear thin. A solid, worthwhile entry despite its flaws.
Our analysis
The sequel's faster, more involved combat and interface are improvements with some more interesting side quests, but its unresolved story, reused areas, dumbed-down RPG elements and weaker characters fall short of Origins; still a good game worth playing through.
Our analysis
Strong improvements over Origins. Beautiful Kirkwall, active fun combat, clever dialogue with meaningful choice system. Pinnacle CRPG personal story.
