  Our analysis

A bizarre but entertaining FromSoftware oddity that successfully blends medieval dungeon-crawling with modern-day weapons and dismemberment mechanics. While exploration takes a backseat to combat compared to King's Field, the novel juxtaposition of fantasy and firearms, combined with genuinely creative enemy design, makes it a worthwhile historical curiosity and solid entry point into FromSoft's pre-Dark Souls catalog.

  Our analysis

Shadow Tower Abyss is a remarkable sequel that corrects most of its predecessor's missteps with improved combat, better environment variety, more meaningful resource management, and a stronger sense of progression, making it a special game that stands on its own despite some late-game balance issues.
