Our analysis
A reimagining of the survival-horror classic that ends up mostly disappointing and feels like missed potential. The gorgeously detailed Derceto Mansion, creative spooky locales, genuine jump scares, and clever puzzles are standouts, but messy combat, generic enemies, an awkward out-of-nowhere boss, and a brutally short, disjointed story drag it down. A baby step for the franchise worth a look at the right price, especially for old-school horror fans.
Our analysis
A competent but inconsistent horror remake. Its story, atmosphere, reality-bending narrative and Doom-jazz soundtrack are strong, with star performances from David Harbor and Jodie Comer, but it never rises above stunt casting. The combat is consistently poor and undercooked, and some puzzles are obtusely illogical. It falls well short of the series' all-time greats.

A solid survival horror reboot that knows what it is and executes well on its vision. While it has some rough edges with bugs and tonal inconsistency, fans of old-school survival horror and the Resident Evil remakes will find a fun, engaging experience that does everything it attempts quite well.
